A couple of weekends ago my gorgeous cousin and her fiance tied the knot. In Alabama. Guess who went on a road trip??
The majority of weddings that we’ve attended over the past several years have been weddings that we’ve photographed, so we (especially me!) were thrilled to be able to attend a wedding as a guest… and wear normal wedding guest clothes… and view a wedding ceremony seated in a pew instead of walking hither and yon around the sanctuary snapping away the whole time. As a bonus, since this was a family wedding, we were going to get to hang out with loads of uber-cool relatives for an entire weekend. Yeah, we were headed to ‘Bama and we were ready to par-tay!!
We set off early on Friday morning with my sister (and photog assistant) Cali in tow. First stop: Mediocre Morning Sustenance.
Second stop: The Atlanta airport to pick up my brother who had flown in from Miami for the wedding weekend.
Our questionable back seat cargo.
We did things like this to pass the time…
Ah ha!! Finally!
We headed straight to the church to help decorate the reception hall for the wedding. I love, love, loved the decor my cousin chose. Everything was just perfection!
After the reception hall was decorated we checked into our hotel, visited with family a bit, and then went to the rehearsal dinner. I was so busy chatting with the folks at our table and devouring the wonderful food that I totally neglected to take more than three photos. Bad me! I did get this one of the head table with the bride, groom, their parents and grandparents.
After hanging with the cousins until gosh-awful-too-late that night we were up and at ’em the next morning for the Big Day! I put on my Hairdresser hat for a little while to help some of the bridesmaids with their hair.
Then we got into mischief at Cracker Barrel for awhile with a bunch of the family. (I can’t believe I just admitted that I’m related to these crazies…)
Then… it was Wedding Time!! I almost ashamed to say that I didn’t get a single photo of the ceremony, and very few of the reception, but hey, I was there to rejoice and celebrate with my cousin and her new husband so I think it’s okay that my face wasn’t behind my camera this time. 🙂
I couldn’t make it to the front of the crowd for any photos of the bride and groom’s first dance, but I did manage to get a few of the father/daughter dance.
The next morning we said goodbye to Alabama and set out for home.
Hands down, this was the best road sign we saw during the whole trip.
I didn’t take many photos on the drive home because I was very busy doing important things… like examining the back of my eyelids for holes. *ahem* But that evening, after all of the unpacking, I took this, the last photo of the weekend. And then I sat down to enjoy my Russian tea (perfect guest favor for an autumn wedding) and reminisced about the whole fabulous wedding weekend.
