So… I’ve been on a home decorating kick lately. Interior decorating was my first serious “art love”, and I even thought about pursuing it as a career at one point, but I kind of found another love in photography so decorating got pushed to the wayside a bit. But lately… lately I’ve been in a decorating frenzy of sorts.
My husband and I moved into a new house about three years ago and… I… I…I still haven’t finished decorating. Actually, I’ve barely even started. I know, I know! It’s sad and pathetic and I would be embarrassed for people to come over to our boring shell of a home except that we live in the middle of Nowhereville and no one comes over much anyway except for family, and thankfully they still accept us despite the fact that we are sorely lacking in the home decor department.
Now, back to this decorating frenzy. Something must have snapped in my brain a few months ago because all of a sudden I was consumed with decorating ideas and I started making plans and sewing curtains and shopping at IKEA (love, love, love that store!) and making the longest Honey Do List in the history of mankind.
And then I ran smack into The Mantle Dilemma.
I don’t know why I have such an issue with making a decision on how to decorate our fireplace mantle, but I do, and it’s been the thorn in my side since we moved into our house. For three years I have gone back and forth with design ideas and I still don’t know how it’s going to look in the end, but the one thing I do know is that it will be decorated before I leave this earth! Maybe. Anyway, last week I had an epiphany and decided to take some type of photo, blow it up, and use it as part of my mantle decor. I know what you’re thinking. Photographer… photo wall art… Duh! Yeah, I’ve never been called the sharpest tool in the shed. Stop laughing.
Anyway! Right after my epiphany last week I knew exactly what type of photo I was going to create, so a few days ago I borrowed a few props, dressed my sister up, and (after waiting all day for the rain clouds to quit dripping) snapped away. The slightly vintage style of photo processing isn’t something I do very often (never actually), but I was going for an earthy color scheme and I decided to try it out and I think I like the effect. Two of these photos are being blown up for our living room and maybe… just maybe… I’ll take a photo of the finished mantle product and put it on here. If I ever get to a finished mantle product, that is.
