In Which Wenzel Photography Turns One

One year ago today I started this little blog and officially launched Wenzel Photography.  My husband, Michael, and I had little idea what running our own business would entail, but we jumped in with both feet and haven’t looked back since.  In my very first post I wrote that “I really have no idea what I’m doing, but I’m stepping out there anyway and we’ll just have to see what God will do with my feeble and shaking attempts at starting a photography business.”  Well, my attempts have been very feeble and very shaky to say the least, but despite that, God has blessed Wenzel Photography beyond our expectations.  Word has traveled faster than we anticipated(a good thing!) and we have even waded into wedding photography; which is an area of photography I once claimed I wouldn’t touch with a 50 foot pole!  It’s been a crazy ride, a learning and growing process, and hey, it’s been a lot of fun to boot!

As a side note, I would like to mention that while I may do most of the photography work (since photography is more my passion than it is Michael’s), I definitely think that my husband has had the harder job in the partnership and I know I never could have made it through the last twelve months without him.  He’s my biggest supporter, my sanity while shooting a hectic wedding, my sounding board for all manner of off-the-wall ideas, and when the photo editing workload starts to pile up he’s the one who makes sure that we have clean laundry, a clean house, and plenty of food to eat (i.e. pizza) so that I can lose myself in editing for hours (or days!) at a time and not have to worry about our home going to pot.  I love that guy.  And I’m pretty sure that he’s grossly underpaid.

Anyway, all that was to say that Wenzel Photography has had a great first year.  And a very large reason for that is because of you, blog readers.  For some reason you keep coming back, even when there is nothing new to see around here for weeks.  And what’s more, you’ve spread the word about our little photography business!  Thank you advertising for us.  Thank you for being our fans on Facebook.  Thank you for reading, and commenting, and encouraging me to keep shooting.  Y’all are the best!

Now, it’s about time we had some new photos to look at, wouldn’t you say?  In my first post here on the blog there were photos of one of my beautiful sisters.  I thought it would be fun to celebrate Wenzel Photography’s one year milestone with photos of my other (equally beautiful!) sister,  so last Saturday we got her all dolled up, trotted around to a few different locations, laughed until our abs ached, and generally just had a blast.  Later that day, after uploading all the photos to my computer, I just sat there staring at my computer screen with a slightly sad sort of smile on my face.  Who was this woman and what did she do with my baby sister??  Michael’s mournful comment when he saw the photos was, “Another one of my sisters is almost grown up and soon she’ll get married and be gone.”  I told him to stop that crazy talk because she’s only 14 and besides, I’m never letting her get married if it involves her moving away.  So there.

This is, hands down, my favorite photo from the shoot.  I. Love. It.

This next little collage does my heart good, because it’s a reminder that even though my baby sister is now a georgeous young lady, she still is and always will be my baby sister.  And Cali, I was just kidding before about the never letting you get married part.  I think.
Remember the little slideshow that was in my first post?  I thought our first birthday was a fitting occasion for a second slideshow.  Enjoy!
